Shitty week, part two

By kate on January 8th, 2004

Because I got into work at 1pm, I worked until 9:30pm. When I left and went down to the parking garage, I realized that my car alarm dongle was completely dead. I had no way to disable my car alarm.

I unlocked the car (setting off the alarm) and started the engine. The beeping changed, but continued. So, I closed the car and let the alarm finish its 30-second tirade.

I should mention that because I came from skiing, I didn’t have my regular card key. I checked out a temporary one from work, but it wasn’t the kind that lets me up the elevator after hours. So, I had to go into the lobby, and sweet-talk the security guard into letting me up the elevator. Luckily, he knew who I was from several months of “hello-goodbye” so he did.

I went back into the office and changed my cardkey for a better one. I found a screwdriver, opened the dongle, and found an “A23” battery. Of course none of those were lying around the office (I looked). I was in downtown Bellevue at 10pm, where hardly anything is open, and no car.

Luckily, one of my co-workers, Matt, lives very close to the office so I looked up his number and called him. He saved the day by coming over and driving me to a Safeway where (thankfully) they had A23 batteries.

I got home an hour and a half after leaving work.
