Aerialistas perform this weekend!

By kate on December 7th, 2005

If you made it to last year’s Moisture Festival, you know how awesome it was. For two nights this weekend (Friday and Saturday), the Moisture Festival is putting on a benefit show to raise money for this year’s festival (in March). Many local performers from last year’s festival will be there, including Circus Contraption and the Aerialistas.

I won’t be in it, but I’ll be there!

Pretty

By kate on November 28th, 2005

Our newly redesigned Aerialistas website is finally online. I didn’t design it, but I did all the coding. (Yes, it’s made with frames. No, I’m not proud.)

And now, pictures of me in my undies are on teh internets. Not sure how I feel about that…

Forgetting the obvious

By kate on November 26th, 2005

For Thanksgiving, we hung out with my family, including our nephew Asher, who is an incredibly delightful child. I love watching his self-possession as he carefully explores objects and people, and it reminded me of something I’d forgotten.

For a while, I’ve been thinking of this alien thing called “baby” that we’re expecting… a weird lifeform that will eat, sleep, and excrete and force us to conform to its schedule. What Asher reminded me is that Zippy is going to be a human being. Someone with a discernable personality that we’ll get to spend a lifetime getting to know better. That’s a lot more exciting!

Loss of depth

By kate on November 21st, 2005

My bellybutton is kind of freaking me out. Until now, my bellybutton has been unusually deep, and sensitive to the touch. It hurts to clean, and I rarely, if ever, really get to the bottom. If a finger is stuck far in, I feel like my innermost organs are being probed (and it’s uncomfortable).

Now, my bellybutton is as shallow as a tide pool. The bottom is not only accessible, but visible. I wouldn’t be surprised if it popped and became an outie soon. And, I don’t know why exactly, but it weirds me out. It’s kind of like I’ve lost access to part of my body / self.

No news is good news

By kate on November 18th, 2005

We had our monthly midwife appointment yesterday, and there wasn’t any real news to speak of. Everything is normal, healthy, and as expected. Of the most interest is that we decided upon March 12th as our new due date.

Otherwise, the pregnancy is progressing. Zippy has become quite a kicker, and I can feel her kicking for a few periods every day. So far, the only other person she’s allowed to feel it is her father. Soon, I hope to share the odd sensation with other friends and family members.

I’m doing okay except for that persistent back pain. Sitting in the armchair sometimes at work has kept it from being unbearable. Yesterday, the midwife suggested trying arnica, a homeopathic remedy for back pain. Making things worse, today I woke up with my neck acutely out of joint. I worked from home most of the day, and am hoping to get in to see the chiropractor tomorrow.

I miss the occasional drink, but I’d happily skip a glass of wine for a good dose of ibuprofen right about now.
