Little discomforts
By kate on July 13th, 2005
Button your pants before you stand up.
This is a new mantra that I’m trying to learn. 🙂 My stomach isn’t very much larger when I’m standing up, but it seems less compressible. So, when I sit down, it doesn’t fold in as well as it used to. This makes my pants uncomfortable only when sitting, especially after I’ve eaten, so I’ve been unbuttoning (and sometimes unzipping) my pants a lot. (Don’t worry; I’m wearing long shirts so I’m covered.) So far, I’ve avoided any embarrassing situations (forgetting, standing up, pants falling down), but I worry it’ll happen sooner or later.
Also, my wish for another pregnancy symptom has been answered in a nice way. Yesterday and today, I’ve been having little crampy-type things where my uterus is. They’re not overly painful or uncomfortable; just enough to get my attention. I assume it’s just growing pains, and it’s nice and reassuring.

*Snicker*

Check out Spamusement! – be sure to page back a while. Some of the drawings are so funny that I laughed out loud at my (non-private) desk at work.

Body Movin’
By kate on July 10th, 2005
I’ve decided to just listen to my body with regard to exercise. I’ve used the elliptical machine a couple of times, and today I went for a regular jog with a friend. I felt fine – no tireder than usual. I felt good when I was done. I’m just going to keep on doing it until my body tells me to stop.
I did have to double-up on my sports bras to get enough support, though.

Guerilla Aerial!
By kate on July 8th, 2005
Yesterday, to promote the current Circus Contraption show, a couple of us staged a guerilla aerial event in Pioneer Square during the Art Walk.
What that really means is that we put up an aerial rig with a tissu on it, and switched off doing little improvised sets. Even though it was pretty rough, the crowd enjoyed it.
One of my co-workers took a few grainy pictures, like this one:

Being active
By kate on July 8th, 2005
So much of the material I’ve found about exercising when pregnant is targeted toward women who don’t usually exercise much. I assumed most people work out to some degree, but maybe not. It’s been hard to find good advice for someone like me who runs and plays soccer. I did find this recent article.
Today I performed for maybe the last time in a while. It was cool to be able to do it while pregnant, to secretly know I was bringing the baby along. It’ll be a good story, to tell about the kid who was an aerialist when only a month old. (Actually, not a “month old”. I don’t know what you’d call an embryo that has existed for a month.)

Grumpy?
By kate on July 7th, 2005
This morning, I was grabbed immediately to work on a tech issue that lasted all morning (and still isn’t completely fixed). As a result, I got grumpy and felt overwhelmed. Is this pregnancy-enhanced moodiness? Or is it normal, given the circumstances? I can’t really tell.
After taking a lunch break to surf blogs, I felt more relaxed. Now if only I could get everything fixed.
